Since first joining my school choir, choral singing has always been a source of great enjoyment and musical fulfilment. At 16 I joined my local choral society and the Liverpool Philharmonic Choir, gaining experience of epic choral pieces from the classical repertoire. When I went away to music college, I sang in the college choir and the opera school chorus.
Returning to Liverpool, I sang for a couple of years with the Metropolitan Cathedral Choir and was also a member of the Renaissance Music Group, specialising in early polyphony.
As a professional singer in more recent years I have been lucky enough to work as a freelance chorister with all the UK national opera companies (English National Opera, Scottish Opera, Welsh National Opera and Opera North) and with the Royal Opera at Covent Garden, under some of the world’s foremost chorus directors and opera conductors.
Wirral Community Choir will be my first post as a choir director and I look forward with great excitement to collaborating with such a lovely group. I hope I can share my enthusiasm for choral singing and, above all, help sustain the great standards set by Stephen Mannings and the choir’s founder, Graham Connolly.
